Mrs. Hans Snoek, original founder of Assitej Netherlands

Hans Snoek (1910-2001) was also founder of the first organization/venue for Young Audiences in Amsterdam: De Krakeling. Coming from a dance background (She founded the Scapino Ballet, as a company for Young audiences at that time) and she has always been a strong supporter and initiator for the arts for young people,  as well in the Netherlands as abroad.

ASSITEJ, the International Association of Theatre for Children and Young People, (French: Association Internationale du Théâtre de l’Enfance et la Jeunesse) was established in 1965 as an international alliance of professionals involved in performing arts for children and young people.

 

The ASSITEJ World Congresses  have been held in Warsaw, Prague, Lyon, Madrid, Adelaide,  Seoul, Rostov on Don, Tromsø, Albany, etc

ASSITEJ is affiliated with several practitioner networks, including the International Inclusive Arts Network (IIAN) and the International Theatre for Young Audiences Research Network (ITYARN) and the playwright network WLPG (Write Local, Play Global).
