Organization & the board

Short History: In 2011, in consultation with a number of young people’s theatre companies, the NAPK, the Tweetakt Festival and Theatre Institute Netherlands (TIN), it has been decided in 2011 to express the Netherlands ambitions for the performing arts for young people more formally by becoming a member again of the Association Internationale du Théâtre pour l’Enfance et la Jeunesse (ASSITEJ), after a couple of years without a Dutch representation in this world organization.

ASSITEJ INTERNATIONAL is an organization in which many countries from all the continents are represented. The aim is to bring theatres, organizations and individuals together from all over the world who are involved with the performing arts for children.

After closing of the TIN, Buro Promotie Podiumkunsten (BBP) became the ‘ASSITEJ Centre of the Netherlands’ on behalf of the young people’s sector, but again due to budget cuts, BPP also had to close its doors and the Assitej Netherlands finally moved to the Krakeling in Amsterdam (October 1 2013). Together with a steering group we organized several events. Till June 2014 the Dutch Performing Arts took over the responsibility and did support the events we organized. In June 2014 we had a meeting with a group of professionals to make solid plans for the future and how we can go on in a professional way. We did propose a new year plan in January 2015 and in August 31, 2015 we started officially as a nonprofit foundation: (Stichting) Assitej Netherlands. For 2015 en 2016 Dutch Performing Arts has given Assitej NL an official assignment to enroll activities for the promotion of Dutch TYA. (TYA = Theatre for Young Audiences) In these turbulent times it is more and more important for the field of TYA to work together and to improve the position we have in the performing arts. We hope Assitej Netherlands can play a supporting role in this, but mostly our role will be the promotion and support of Dutch Performing Arts for Youth abroad.
